Karin Elgin-Nijhuis is a specialist in digital branding and communication for tourism destinations and organisations. 

Having read Ancient History at Utrecht University she remained for several years combining roles at the university with work in tourism. Fascinated by the opportunities the internet offered tourism and hospitality organisations, she trained as an internet developer and adviser and followed (post-graduate) courses in Information Strategy, E-commerce and Corporate Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

She worked as Internet Consultant and Head of Consultancy and Projects of the Information and Media Services Department of the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Congresses (NBTC). 

Karin has been managing director of Elgin & Co. since 2004 and works as an associate consultant with TEAM Tourism Consulting .

She enjoyed researching and writing the UNWTO publication Evaluating and Improving Websites - The Destination Web Watch (2005), and the UNWTO and ETC Handbook on E-marketing for Tourism Destinations (2008 and the fully revised and extended 2014 edition) together with colleagues from TEAM Tourism Consulting. 

The Tourism StoryLAB ® she founded is dedicated to the exchange and development of knowledge about storytelling and narrative techniques as a destination development, branding and marketing tool and as an organisational management and innovation strategy tool.
