Experience the elaborately decorated wooden houses and idyllic street views of Old Rauma, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, circa 50 km from Pori. The city of Rauma offers two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Sammallahdenmäki is the second one. Both sites are unique in their own ways and definitely worth a visit!
After visiting Rauma, you will be taken on tour through the Kauttua Ironworks, where industry, design, art and architecture meet. You will be guided by an expert on the history and the present of the ironworks area and the buildings, including the unique Terraced House designed by Alvar Aalto.
09:00h – Departure from Pori. The bus will be in front of the Old Town Hall. Address: Hallituskatu 9.
10:00h – Arrival in Rauma. The pre-conference tour starts with a 1.5 hour guided walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Rauma. Your English speaking guide will inform you you about the past and the present of this culturally and historically valuable area. Enchanting Old Rauma was chosen to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1991 as a unique example of a living and well maintained old Nordic wooden town. 11:30h – Time to explore Old Rauma independently. There are interesting boutiques and idyllic restaurants and cafés along the narrow Streets. Enjoy lunch in a restaurant or a café of your choice (not included in the price)
13:00h – Departure to Sammallahdenmäki (20 km)
13:30h – Arrival at the Bronze Age burial site Sammallahdenmäki. A guided tour (1 hour) introduces the area covering almost a kilometre and containing 36 burial cairns of different shapes and sizes. Sammallahdenmäki was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1999 as the first prehistoric archaeological site in Finland. Sammallahdenmäki is in the middle of the forest. The area can only be ac-cessed on foot. Make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing and shoes for this walk through the forest! For more information: www.sammallahdenmaki.fi
14:30h – Departure from Sammallahdenmäki to Kauttua (25 km)
15:00h – Arrival in Kauttua. Coffee at Jokisauna, designed by Alvar Aalto.
15:45h – Guided tour through Kauttua’s Ironworks Village and the Terraced House designed by Alvar Aalto (1.5 hour)
17:15h – Back to Pori (55 km)
Price and Conditions
Price – €113 per person plus a service fee of €5. Included are: bus rides from Pori to Rauma, Sammallahdenmäki, Kauttua and back to Pori; tour leader’s services; a 1,5-hour guided tour in Old Rauma in English; a 1-hour guided tour in Sammallahdenmäki in English; coffee/tea and a pastry at Jokisauna; entrance fee to the Terraced House; guide services in Kauttua (1,5 hour); 24% VAT.

Payment – The price of the tour and a service fee €5 are invoiced before the tour. The invoice is sent to the participant via e-mail by Visit Pori Oy. The price needs to be paid in full by 23 September 2017.
Cancellation – Cancelling is possible (without cost) until 15 September 2017 at 12:00h Finnish time by contacting Rauma Tourist Information via email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Payments are not refunded after 15 September 2017.
