The Heritage, Tourism and Hospitality conferences have proven to be of great value to researchers and practitioners working in tourism, heritage, hospitality, geography, archaeology, architecture and related fields. They have inspired research agendas and tourism strategies and resulted in fruitful collaborations.
Hospitable partnerships
HTHIC2014, HTHIC2015, HTHIC2017 and HTHIC2020 were/are possible thanks to partnerships with and contributions from a wide variety of public and private organisations, such as destination management and marketing organisations (DMOs), ministries of tourism, universities and accommodation providers.
Special sessions on location
Each Heritage, Tourism and Hospitality conference offers besides presentations of research results and interesting cases, ‘Special Sessions on Location’: meetings between conference participants and local heritage curators. The aim is to learn from each other and as visitors give back to host destinations.

Living Heritage and Sustainable Tourism

CANCELED
HTHIC2020 was organised in collaboration with the ‘UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites’ at USI – Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland) and the UNESCO-UNITWIN Network “Culture, Tourism, and Development” under the patronage of the Swiss Commission for UNESCO.
The conference evolved around the theme “Living Heritage and Sustainable Tourism” with Mendrisio in Switzerland as a fascinating example of ‘living’ tangible and intangible heritage. Unfortunately, the conference needed to be cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The HTHIC2020 “Preceedings” can be downloaded from the USI website.

& Books
Conference proceedings were published by the HTHIC host universities. They can either be downloaded for free or ordered at a cost price in our resources section.
HTHIC2014 and HTHIC2015 were followed up by two books, published by CABI and Amsterdam University Press respectively.
